In April 2000, NCTM released "Principles and Standards for School Mathematics," updating their groundbreaking standards released in 1989. The new Principles and Standards document "is the compilation of the lessons learned and experiences gained over the last ten years" and "reflects the most current thinking, research, experience and expertise of a wide variety of groups with an interest in mathematics education." The full text of "Principles and Standards" is available online on the NCTM website, along with several related resources.
